Murmeln in Schale

Here are brief explanations of the Marbles on Stream terms.

!play

With this you start the game in the stream, or put your marble on the track. Alternatively you can use special emotes. The currently valid ones are shown at the top of the countdown. Mostly these are marble emotes of some “special” streamers.

!play phase

This is the name given to the time in the game during which the other players place their marbles on the maps with “!play”. During this time, other comments or messages are usually lost – especially for streamers with many players. So wait with your messages for the time when the marbles are rolling along the track, then you will also be noticed.

Back to Back (B2B)

This means when a marble has two (or more) wins in a row.

Battle-Royal

A game variant where marbles “battle” each other. Only one winner emerges, who gets all the points. There are two sizes of the playing area, but this is just a different form of representation and has no influence on the game. More info…

BetterTTV

Browser extension that brings more features to Twitch chat. See under “Tips & Tricks“.

Big Loads

These are maps that have a long runtime (>10min) and are started in such a way that they end just before the power is reset. These maps are opened with a lot of lead time, so that many marbles can participate – because the more marbles, the more points you get.

Often “Clean Up” maps are run after the Big Load, so that you can balance your energy again.

Since Season 43, however, there are fewer points for these lanes that the number of streamers who offer this has reduced again. But a participation is still worthwhile.

Bloop

This “!bloop” is a small “side game” from Marbles. More information here.

Boost

On some lanes, some streamers allow you to use this boost function.

This usually does not work via chat, but mostly via the channel points. The amount to use the boost is set by the streamer. This can range from 1 point to thousands. In rare cases this is also possible via “!boost” in the chat – but here you should specify a number between 0-250. What influence this has, I don’t know, because it is almost nowhere active.
The marble becomes clearly faster by it. This is mostly played on the round tracks “Paperclip”, “Delta”, “Boomerang” and others.
The marble becomes significantly faster through. This is mostly played on the lanes “Paperclip”, “Delta” and “Boomerang”.
It can be boosted several times – but be careful: too fast in the curves? Then you can also fly off…

Builder

With the Marbles on Stream app, you can also build maps yourself – the so-called “Community maps”. Here you can give free rein to your creativity. After the tracks are built, you have to run them with a virtual test to upload them for the streamers.
The mape builders (also called track builders) also get points for their creations. But which this works, I don’t know.

Captain.TV

This is a store where you can buy coins and other things cheaper than in Marbles on Stream’s own store. There you can get the current “Season Package” (see below) for a better price. There are also AddOns, which are not available in the MoS Shop.
Additionally you can support the streamer of your choice by purchasing a few percent of your sales.

Checkmark

This term refers to the point at which you no longer get any energy back. Further information: Energy

CEST / MEZ

This is the time zone valid in Germany:
CEST = Central European Summer Time, CET = Central European Time (winter).

Changes

The whole game and also the framework are subject to some changes for each season. These can be minor or major changes. Thus, no boredom creeps in for the streamers and players.

Channel points

You can collect these points per streamer on twitch. Simply by watching, you can’t buy either – not even with coins.
What can you do with the points? Just click on the number of points, then the possible functions are displayed, which the streamer has set up. These can be sound alerts, text highlighting or the popular function “Boost” or “Jump” for “Marbles on Stream”. What each of these costs in points is also determined individually by the streamer. After the function is triggered, the corresponding points are deducted.
Some streamers also organize various activities with the points during the stream, e.g. predictions (also called channel betting).

Channel bet

A channel bet is a way to add more interactivity to the stream. It allows players to bet on a pre-determined event (e.g. a GP being won by a female, or two players having a virtual race) and place channel points on it. Those who bet correctly get paid the winning pot.

Clean Up

This means that the streamers give the players the possibility to finish their energy round before the end of the stream to avoid ending up with “0” energy. More about Energy…

Countdown / Timer

The start before which it starts on the tracks. For this we have some hints at the tips & tricks.

Cycle

If the streamer mentions something about a “Cycle” in his stream, it means a small additional game outside of Marbles on Stream. The game records the places you have reached while marbling. If you have reached the places 1-10 at least 1x, you get this cycle. What happens with it is individual for each streamer. Some streamers give you points for additional games, or “tickets” for raffles in the stream, or similar. If in doubt, ask the streamer, he will be happy to explain. The places that have already been won, or those that are still missing, can usually be queried with “!mycycle”.

Delay / Lag

Transmission delays can occur in streams. There are some hints in the “Tips & Tricks“. But here in short: Try to press “Pause” and then “Play” button in the stream, then the delay should be compensated. This can happen if you have a bad internet connection or if you have several streams open at the same time. Then simply pause/play about every 15-20 minutes.

Displays in the game

The displays in this game mode are explained on this page.

DNF

This abbreviation stands for “Did not finish” and means that the marble did not reach the finish. It either fell off the track or was “burned” by the time limit.

Drop / Drops

Free skin after 3 hours of playing or watching: more info.

Dust

There is a new way to turn your unloved marbles into “Dust” to buy other skins/marbles or other inventory. Read more…

Elim

There is this term twice in Marbles:

  • Elim rate for map: This indicates, in %, approximately how many marbles fall out per run
  • Elims in “Battle Royal”: Shows how many other marbles you have destroyed (eliminated)

Emotes

These are small icons/animations that are displayed on the main screen and in the chat. Some of them are provided by the streamers for free, others are only available for followers, for subs or for “Hype Train” participants.

Furthermore, there are also so-called “Join emotes”. These are special emotes of the last top 5 streamers. After a sub at this stream you can join the game with this emote instead of “!play”. In rare cases, some streamers even change the participation to “emote-ony-chat” – then you can only play along with it.

Energy

You need energy to score.
Also called “Energy Tiers” in the app. Some english-speaking streamers usually don’t know what to do with “Energy”, because they talk about “Tiers”.

Energy recovery

You can get your energy back when you’ve “zeroed out”. How? Here is the info…

Entry Win

This means that it happens quite often that if you place the first marble in a nicely long stream, it wins. Coincidence? It happens too often and can be observed again and again.

ET

This is the time zone for international events like the “Marble Fest” (see below) and stands for “Eastern Time” (New York, -6h to Central European Time, CET).
In the USA, there are other time zones that may be specified, such as “Pacific Standard Time” (PST).

Ghost ball

The so-called “ghost ball” (“ghost marble” or “ghostball”) shows the course of the current record marble on the standard mapes. This allows you to quickly see whether the leading marble is ahead or behind the record time. This display is not shown on the “Community maps”.

Gemron

Gemron” is the colored display of the current rank at the nickname.
More about this in the info about the points.

GG

Stands for “Good game” – shaking hands after the track and expresses joy. In streams from Austria (or other German-language streams) you can sometimes hear “GZ” – that could stand for “Gute Zeit” (Good time) – but no one could tell me specifically yet.

Grand Prix

A series of courses with an overall winner – also called “GPs”, more info.

Grinder

Players who want to become world champions. Rank in the world leaderboard is displayed on the marble from 1000.

HOM

“Home of Marbles” – behind it hides an Easter-Egg from Marbles on Stream.
More about this under “Drops” and “Energy“.

Hype Train

This is a feature of Twitch that is triggered by community activity. Through donations, gifted subs, and bits, users can support the stream and in some cases give gifts to other stream participants. These activities are not free for the community and benefit the streamers to a large extent. So you can also support them financially.

The Hype Train comes in several levels, depending on how many stream participants have “gifted”. The gifters also get more exclusive emotes unlocked.

Inventory

In Marbles on Stream this means the “accessories” for your marble. These are e.g. skins from the drops, trails or other effects from the shop or the tournament-coins.

Layer / Skin

The design of a marble is called a “skin”. However, some marbles do not only consist of a skin, but have additional “layers”. With each additional layer the marble becomes more complete – e.g. more colorful, or as with the “Dev V9” more and more shining pixels appear. Some marbles show their full “beauty” only when you get all layers of them. More info here.

Leader Board

There are several “Leader Boards” in Marbles on Stream. The central leader board is the score list that is displayed in your profile and is used to calculate your “rank”. Each streamer can also create “Local Leader Boards”, e.g. for events, or simply as a ranking list for his streams.
The central list is only relevant during the season. The local boards of the streamers can also be used “off-season”.

Local Record

The “Local Recors” is also displayed in the standard/studio maps. This is the record that was set for this streamer. This may differ from the “Global Record”. More about this here…

Lurk

Lurk literally means someone in the stream who still has the stream up, but no longer actively follows it. Thus, he can support the streamer through his “view” to a small extent. This is because the number of viewers around him is one higher.

Maps

These are the individual routes or tracks on which the marbles start rolling. There are tracks provided by the game provider (Standard maps) and there are “community maps” that users of the game have created. In addition, there is a program with which you can create your own tracks.
The streamers also have the possibility to rate the courses. When selecting courses, streamers can use these ratings when selecting their GPs.

Marblefest

The “Marble Fest” is an event organized by the game manufacturer and popular or special streamers are invited. The players can always win great prizes – usually an exclusive skin for the marble or PbP coins. Each streamer takes over for 2 hours and then passes (raided) to the next streamer – so you just need to stick with it and write “!play”.

This event always takes place between the seasons – the so-called “off-season”. This means that no “clean-ups” are necessary here – so don’t be surprised.

Meta

This means the calculation of the points of the races, the lap races and the Battle Royals. Pixel by Pixel Studios changes this calculation every now and then, even during a season. The most different parameters can flow into this calculation, like for example:

  • Lead time before the run starts
  • World Record – additionally how many times the track has been run before (also shown since Season 45)
  • Distance of the first and last marble in the finish
  • For Royals the number of Eleminations and Kills, as well as the number of marbles

Unfortunately, due to the frequent change cycles, I can’t keep track of that here, especially since I also only become aware of some of the information during the cycle.

Missions

If you want to complete special tasks while playing marbles, you can do this with the “missions” – what you need for this is described in the detailed tour: To the tour…

Morbies

This is a “collection” of NFT objects in the Solana crypto world. You can take part in the missions with the Morbies, among other things. More information here.

MSLA

This is a league where weekly races are held on racing circuits with many laps (often 333 or 500). And this in teams. Detailed information can be found here: To MSLA

NFT

An “NFT” is a collectible within the cryptocurrency world. More information on this in the tour of the missions.

Nicknames and the colors

The nicknames are displayed in different colors in the game. These colors are partly controlled by the game itself and partly by twitch. These colors with meanings exists:

  • white: normal player
  • blue: SUB of the channel
  • pink: VIP of the channel
  • green/petrol: moderator of the channel
  • dark pink: one of the “first subs” of the channel (1st) (also called “founder”)
  • red: the streamer himself
  • yellow: the record holder of the lane plays himself
  • petrol: the creator of the channel plays himself
  • purple: a staff member from the “Pixel by Pixel” environment
  • orange: this color is for the Marbles Ambassadors – since September 29th 2023 we got 2 european ambassadors

Off-Season

This is the name given to the time when no “season” is running. The manufacturer gives the “grinders” a break from the marble stress. During this time, no points can be scored for the world ranking list, no energy is required or used for playing, and no missions can be played.

PbP

This is the abbreviation for the manufacturer of Marbles on Stream: Pixel-by-Pixel Studios

Phantom

A very popular app for using the crypto wallet. More information here…

Pixel-by-Pixel Studios

This is the name of the producer company of “Marbles on Stream”.

Prime-Sub

If you have a Prime subscription with Amazon, you can support a streamer of your choice once a month. To do this, you link your Twitch account with your Amazon account and you have a free sub/month at your disposal. It’s completely free and you support your favorite streamer.

Raid

A “Raid” is like a raid. When the streamer ends his session, he has the possibility on Twitch to forward his viewers (fellow players) to another streamer. Often, Marbles streamers do this to another streamer playing Marbles, so that they can continue murmuring directly. A special joy can be made with it smaller/new Streamer, so that also these have more marbles on the course.

Rank

The rank in the game is calculated according to the number of points earned during the season. From the rank derives, for example, that you get from rank 1000 this attracted to his marble.

Record

The fastest run of a course per season is displayed in the upper right corner. You can break this record by rolling through the track faster. If the record holder is in a run himself, his name is displayed above the marble in yellow letters.
Currently, a new record also gives more points to those who get points. However, this does not apply to the first run on a new track. From the 2nd run on, there are then more points for the record.

Royal

See above under “Battle Royal”.

Season

Marbles on Stream cannot be played continuously throughout the year. It is divided into so-called “Seasons“. These run for about a month and then have a few days “break”. More info…

Seasons Package

You can buy the Season Package in the MoS Shop (or at Captain.TV see above). It consists mostly of:

  • 100 PbP Coins
  • a marble
  • a rare trail – usually can not be acquired alone

Seed

During “Tilt” there are so-called “seeds”. These are stored sequences of tilt paths with always the same obstacles. These have different degrees of difficulty. Some streamers save a seed where they think it is “easier” to do. However, this has nearly no effect on fellow streamers.

Skin

See above at “Layer / Skin”

Solana

This is a cryptocurrency platform. It is often used in the gaming sector, especially in the USA, and is quite widespread. More on this in the missions tour…

Speed-GP

This is a special form of the “Grand Prix“. Here the tracks are started very fast one after the other.

Stamina

These are special energy points that are primarily relevant for streamers. More information here…

Teams

If the streamer activates this function, the marbles are divided into teams and get the corresponding colors for their names. The teams then also fight against each other and can throw each other off the track – similar to the “Battle Royal”.

Tiers

The English meaning for “energy”, respectively for the set of 4 energies – see above.

Tilt

Special courses with focus on points, more info.

UwU

UwU, also stylized as uwu, is an emoticon representing a cute face. The u characters represent closed eyes, while the w represents a mouth.[1][2] It is used to express various warm, happy, or affectionate feelings. (Reference: wikipedia)

Vote

See under “Vote” on the Tips & Tricks page…

Wall of fire

When the first marble reaches the finish line, the remaining time for the track starts. This time is displayed at the top and a wall of fire moves across the track. All marbles that are caught by it no longer complete the track.

Wallet

A “wallet” is a purse (or depository) in the cryptocurrency world. There is more information about this on the tour of the missions.
